frequently asked questions
Who is the ideal candidate for this treatment?
The ideal candidate for Dermaplaning has aging, dry, rough, or uneven skin tone. Dermaplaning can also help reduce the appearance of shallow acne scars, fine lines and superficial hyperpigmentation.
Is the treatment safe?
Yes, there is no more risk to the skin than when you shave your legs and there is no downtime. At Venia, this treatment is provided by a licensed esthetician.
Does dermaplaning hurt?
Dermaplaning is effective by performing a gentle scraping motion across the skin’s surface and is entirely painless.
Will dermaplaning make the hair on my face grow back thicker and darker?
No, there are two types of hair on the body – vellus and terminal hair. The soft, fine vellus or “peach fuzz” is the hair that grows on the face, and it grows back at the same rate and texture.
What is the benefit of adding a chemical peel with dermaplaning?
Hyperkeratosis is a buildup of dead skin cells on the skin’s surface. By dermaplaning this initial layer, a chemical peel can penetrate deeper into the dermis resulting in a more effective treatment. The combination of dermaplaning and a chemical peel promotes new skin growth and targets problems such as aging, sunspots and environmental damage.
How long is the treatment?
A treatment lasts between 30 – 45 minutes.
How often can I have it done?
The ideal time between treatments is 21 to 28 days. One treatment removes approximately 21 days worth of dead skin. It is important to let the skin rejuvenate before having another appointment.
What is the difference between dermaplaning and microdermabrasion?
Dermaplaning is the removal of vellus hair (peach fuzz) and dead skin cells from the skin. Microdermabrasion exfoliates the surface of the skin, but not as thoroughly or deeply as dermaplaning. Both treatments are forms of exfoliation.
